5 Reasons You Might Not Last a Year as a Real Estate Agent

And Failure Isn’t One of Them

I’ve been in the real estate game now for almost four years and I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard the widely disseminated statistic that between 80–90% of real estate agents “fail” within their first year in the business.

While I gather that the purpose of propagating this harrowing statistic is to prepare the neophyte agent for the grueling and unpredictable nature of a business that requires a lion’s share of persistence, I have always found the word “fail” as it used in this instance to be rather vague.

The trouble with “fail” here is that it is a bit misleading. You don’t need a magical combination of innate skills or even a great deal of intelligence to succeed as a real estate agent. The truth is, you will have many fails in real estate. Finding success in this business comes down to how many times you are willing to get knocked down and get back up again.

Instead of telling you why you might “fail” at real estate, which sounds downright discouraging, I’m going to empower you by giving you five reasons why you might choose to drop out within the first five years of becoming a real estate agent.
